Integrated approach designed to foster co-operation on work site
A career in the construction trades just became a great deal more attractive with a dramatic new
teaching facility at Algonquin College.
With its massive green roof, the Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence makes visible its
commitment to sustainability.
The 190,000-square-foot building is designed as a "living laboratory" with cutaways in floors, walls and ceilings that reveal inner workings. It has smart-building technology that monitors the performance of systems. It also showcases materials, sustainable construction practices and craftsmanship.
"This is going to make it a lot sexier" to learn a trade, says Jacob Sancartier, president of the students'
