This 70,000 square foot high school is located in the Township of Cumberland, Ontario. Phase I accommodated 476 students and a community day care. Three subsequent phases were added to the shool. These included of a 3 storey addition, which was added on the south side of the original school building providing additional classrooms, laboratories, a dark room, dramatic and visual arts classrooms. Subsequently, a new gymnasium, auditorium and additional classrooms and laboratories were also added to accomodate the ever growing school population.
The highlight of the building is a central, two-storey atrium that creates convenient access to the school complex, and serves as a gathering space for students and the public. Through the skylight in the atrium, natural light reaches centrally located classrooms and corridors. The school layout is compact, efficient, and economical. Other characteristics of the school include specialized teaching areas, an integrated computer network system, a competition-size gymnasium, and a multi disciplinary auditorium / cafeteria / exercise room.
