École élémentaire catholique Alain-Fortin
Orléans, Ontario
Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est
The École élémentaire catholique Alain-Fortin was designed into a master planned community based on the principles of new urbanism. The school’s design has been very popular with the community, its users, and the school board. The main design elements include a naturally lighted multipurpose room, which faces a public square; a large hall; a library featuring a two storey glass wall, which provides daylight harvesting to the lobby and the corridors; two skylights, which illuminate the second storey corridors and break out areas. The Daycare facility is independent, allowing it to operate autonomously.
Innovative and sustainable building design solutions include: a rainwater recovery and storage system to supply dual flush water closets and urinals; light sensitive / multi level lighting control strategies; energy recovery strategies to pre-condition outdoor ventilation air.
