Our Office in collaboration with University of Ottawa Facility and Users' Groups have delivered a programme document for all addition and renovation of Roger Guindon Hall.

Roger Guindon Hall is located at the core of the Ottawa Health Sciences Centre. This 80 acre Medical Research Complex includes:

• The University of Ottawa

- Faculty of Medicine

- Faculty of Health Sciences

• The Ottawa Hospital (General Campus)

• The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario

• The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute

• The Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre

• The Ottawa Health Research Institute (General Campus)

Medical research at the University of Ottawa fosters scientific creativity, stimulates intellectual curiosity and promotes academic excellence. The Faculty of Medicine’s researchers are involved in basic and clinical research and are recognized internationally for their work. The Faculty of Medicine at the University, as part of its strategic planning, has identified Systems Biology, which incorporates geonomics, proteomics and bioinformatics, as a major new thrust in its research activities. Systems Biology is currently the single major focus of expansion in the Basic Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine.

To house these research initiatives, a 98,000 square foot addition and renovation was undertaken to the existing science facility. The new research spaces include bio-containment laboratories (CL levels two and three), a state of the art animal vivarium with robotic cage processing systems, wet laboratory space for scientific research and medicine, the Kidney Research Centre and systems biology research laboratories including dedicated equipment rooms for the mass spectrometers. Shared core equipment rooms, offices and support spaces are distributed throughout the facility.

The new infrastructure has a far-reaching impact on the Ottawa regions research community, and will move the University of Ottawa and the O.H.R.I. far along on their path to becoming a leading research centre in Viral and Prion Research, Kidney Research, Systems Biology and Neuroscience Research.
